Are any of the hay replacers on the market actually a viable option for total or partial hay replacement?

Any views would be appreciated! I have enough hay for the winter I think but if it would be good to know my options as I'm using more than anticipated because of the weather and mud

If it's just to top up your hay ration then I'd go for something that takes some chewing to prolong eating time if they're in; a straw chaff is pretty good and all the Hi Fi chaffs by Dengie (and similar other products) can be used to replace hay.

Small baled haylage is probably a good compromise if hay is really short as it takes a while to eat and will work out cheaper than the chaffs as a total replacer.

You could also feed sugar beet or fast fibre that will help to save hay.
