Hi guys, this may be a really stupid question, but just want to get things straight in my head before ploughing on!

Is it ok to soak hay, drain etc, then leave it in the stable ready to go for when she comes in? For example, if I'm doing it in the morning for someone to bring her in for me that evening? I don't really want anyone else to do it for me (heavy, messy etc) so wondered if this would be ok, or am I going to have to rethink?
Thank you!

I agree that while it is cold, it is fine.

Once warm, I use fresh water morning and night, only drain an hour before feeding. It can get rank with flies, so cover whilst draining too.

At this time of year, yes :).

In summer, soaked hay soon starts to heat up from within, so then it’s always best to feed it when it’s as fresh as possible.

Awesome, thanks guys, it's hopefully only for a few weeks whilst she is still stabled overnight

Yes it should be okay, like Tiddlypom says, the danger is when the weather is warmer and then it can ferment.

I often wet a net which I leave round the side of my stable for the following afternoon after work especially when we were on hour slots as I didn't always have time to mess around.
