Hi everyone! I purchased a hay steamer from Simply Steam 6 weeks ago and it's been all great until I noticed a large crack inside it. Has anyone experienced something similar? I have contacted the seller and waiting for a reply. I'm wondering whether it has to do with the very cold weather of the last few days. Thanks

I am not familiar with the Simply Steam hay steamer, but my Haygain One has been performing faultlessly as ever during the cold snap. I’ve been running it twice a day.

I do drain any hoses out after use in freezing weather and I repack the hay chamber with dry hay overnight.

Which bit has cracked? The boiler or the container for the hay?

ETA When it’s freezing I’m very careful that everything is working as it should while it first comes to the boil and produces steam. Then it can be left.

The crack is in the hay container, the black box.
That’s obviously not right, probably the plastic responding to extremes of temperature ( boiling - Arctic!), but it will be under guarantee, so you could expect refund or exchange.
FWIW, a local yard: several livieries have bought wallpaper steamers and wheelie bins, cut necessary low hole to fit the steamer hose, and a drainage hole at bottom, dropped a metal wire fruit rack / type of thing in the bottom to raise the haynets a bit - basically, same principle as the one you’ve bought, probably cheaper to set up, and wheelie bins are a robust material.
Haygain always been a very good design and make, but not ‘budget’.

Thank you. I may just do that with the wheelie bin or similar receptacle, should the guarantee not be honoured. Fingers crossed!

I have a Simply Steam steamer, it is on its 3rd year and I haven’t got any cracks. It’s been really good. I had a dustbin type one before, that got a crack quickly. I haven’t had any really severe freezes to cope with though. Probable maximum about minus 2/3.
