Hay steamers

I have a horse who now has a respiratory problem so I am feeding her haylage. Does anyone have experience of hay steamers and how beneficial they were - my hay quality is actually very good, but for some reason she now has a problem. I only need a small unit - 1 horse at home !

Any recommendations ?
 
We used to steam our hay in a big black dustbin.

We'd boil the water in a kettle and pour it in the bottom then we'd wdege a tubtrug bucket with holes in it in the bin and then the hay goes on top for about half an hour with the bin lid on.

The smell of the hay when the lid came off was heavenly!

The proper hay steamers I have seen are silly money. We use a big dustbin, couple of kettles on net with lid on top. Cheap and easy!
 
I have been using a wallpaper stripper for months now . Cost £22.00 . Make a hole in the bottom of a black dustbin feed in the hose fill with hay , switch on the steamer and away you go. We get a full haynet everytime , steam for about 15mins. My youngster used to cough with the dusty hay not anymore!
Clean and easy.
 
I have a wall paper stripper too - but I brought a water butt, so it has a hole already cut in the bottom that is just about perfect for putting the hose into!

Dead easy - much better than soaking hay

Water butt and hay steamer works really well and no more coughing. I steam for 45 mins
