Hi I wonder if you can help I have 2 16.3h draught horses that require steamed hay only due to coughing they are my world but trying to get dust free hay seems impossible!
I have a steamer simply steam but can only do 1 net at a time its a nightmare time wise and i keep having to replace the steamer part at £40 a time ... I would love the haygain steamer but haven't got £2.5k spare any suggestions on a realistically priced excellent steamer with a good capacity please? Need to buy something this weekend preferably

Haygain one? It’s a lot cheaper, I steam 3 slices off small bales at a time (not in nets). I use it once daily most of the year for my two field living horses, currently twice a day Dec - Feb.

It does a brilliant job and it wouldn’t be worth me getting a bigger one.

I pack the steamed hay into nets afterwards if I’m using nets.

Haygain HG One, the steamer designed for the one horse owner.. I’ve had it for maybe 8 years now in regular use.

You do get more hay in if you don’t put it in nets first.

Fab thank you so much great its working after 8 years i did look was surprised only 1 year warranty so thats good to know 🙂

I love my haygain one but I would splash out and get the bigger one if I could go back. I only needed to steam for one when I bought it but my other horse (who i didn’t have at the time) prefers her hay steamed too although doesn’t have an allergy.

It seems like a lot of money but I would try them on haylage for now and save up and buy one. It’s a great bit of kit.

I use a wallpaper steamer and a wheelie bin* but only have two ponies, I’ve got a wifi enabled plug so I can turn it on in advance if needed.

* I have a plug in it so I can remove the steamer and use it as a soaker in summer.

Mine is the Nuveq summit which I use daily for three field kept horses. It’s the large capacity model and works well. Not cheap though!

I have this one too.

I got it for £1000 second hand it had never been used (unwanted prize in a raffle!!).

I have 2 x 17hh+ horses and a Welsh cob and I run the summit twice a day in the winter.
I think anything smaller, you’ll end up running it constantly.
