Hay surplus 2011 / 2012 !!!

Crikey! £10 for a small bale?!! I pay £15 for a huge round bale of good (not amazing, but good enough) hay delivered from our local farm, in January its going up to £20 and I thought THAT was a bit steep!
*counts blessings*

I got in more than enough for mine back in July at a very reasonable rate, delivered & stacked in my hay store for £3.50 off the field for small bales.
Same farmer has both his large barns filled & has no worries (he says) for selling on quite a bit if required as 2 cuts taken this year, also not bothered if it doesn't sell as the cattle will go through it. He is charging £5 per bale.

Laura-C - I think you've read the £'s wrong for this time of the year - this thread was mainly in March this year :)

I have too much this year, the bf who's a farmer brings me haylage and I still have a huge trailer with well over 200 bales of hay on made by my dad who is also a farmer.... but I know from listening to what farmers around me in the Cambs area have been saying and the crop of hay is really poor and Matt was getting 90+ bales off one field only got 50 off it this year.

It's hard to say if there will be a shortage or not, wait till we start paying for all this mild weather.. all the signs of a bad winter were there if you looked closely at the countryside.

very interesting to bring forward OP yes there is plenty of hay. Can the person who predicted the surplus predict the weather ahead as well please.
