Feed haylage over night in the winter, but there's plenty of grass so he doesn't really eat it. Feed it adlib

haylage year round. 17hh - winter - 3 large nets at night none during day. summer - out 24/7 but allowed a net to nibble on when tied up, generaly will eat 3/4 net each day

We'd always rather feed a load of hay than a smaller amount of hayledge - gives them more to do when stabled overnight in the winter. Their hay is soaked for around 10 hours because they're fatties!

Grass is too good at our yard, so they're in pretty baldy paddocks. Live out throughout summer, weather-permitting. Come in for the night every now and then, or if it's too hot, they're in in the day and out at night.

I also feed hay as well as one of mine has a rather sensitive stomach and if I gave him haylage he would be colicking within a few hours...... others on a mix of both, but more haylage than hay!

Mine is on box rest so eats grass for 30 mins a day in-hand, has about 2kg ReadiGrass as she quite likes it and it keeps her busy, 1.5kg Alfa A, and however much hay she will eat (just enough so she'll just have a few bits she hasn't hoovered off the floor). It was ad-lib until last week when she went off hay entirely, but now I try and give her just enough until I visit her next time as otherwise she won't eat anything (and if I leave it too long it stinks as it's soaked hay!). She's only just coming round to eating hay again so I don't want to put her off again!

hay ad-lib @ night in winter Nov-April weather dependent around 6/7 flaps (two large nets) per night with 1 flap in winter turnout area, he goes out for 5 hours a day. From around April they go onto the summer padock by day & still in @ night and he has about 4/5 flaps a day when he goes out 24/7 he stays out until Oct, end of & only comes in to stable when ridden, bathed, show the next day or an event is at our yard & he has to stay in for the day. his hay is wetted because he is prone to colic

My two get hay all year round. My Welshie is too fat to have much grass and my old girl gets as much hay and grass as she can eat.
