I lovingly carried a heavy haynet up to the field this morning despite losing the feeling in my fingers only for D to take one sniff at it and canter off to eat the frosty grass. Is it going to do her any harm eating the grass instead? I tried telling her she was risking colic but she clearly didn't much fancy the hay.

One of mine did the same this morning! One came cantering up the field and tucked straight in, the other wandered over, took one mouthful and proceeded to munch on the grass, ignoring the hay!

Same here..... yesterday took nice hard feed and hay to field and he was eating grass, didnt even come up for the feed (unusual) had to wait ages for him to deign to wander up and eat it, but I bet the hay is still there as the stuff I took the day before was still there. Might not bother takin any today, but will probably all be gone and I will need to make another trip then

Do your horses live out 24/7 at the moment or are you turning them out then taking the hay out? If they are out 24/7 then the frosty grass won't harm them. If they are in at night then turn out onto frosty grass, beware.

She's in at night because I can't persaude anyone else to turn their horses out. Thankfully she didn't come in with colic tonight so I'm going to assume she's alright
