Hi

I have decided to put Finn's haybar back up, but I don't have the nuts and screws anymore, will I be able to get them from a hardware shop.
Also when I used it before all the crap used to collect underneath it, even though I had it a few inches from the floor. Any suggestions please

Yeah just go to Homebase or somewhere thats what we did.

We used a breeze block underneath to measure the height. It means it has enough room to get a muck rake under and remove all the bits that fall through.

or you can do what I do and that is put a rubber feed skip in the bottom. They are bendy enough to fit in just nicely.

It doesn't stop everything falling through but the vast majority of it plus if like me you are gifted in the height department, it means you can easily reach in and grab the handles to empty it. I feed soaked hay and it also works brilliantly to collect any drips.

I put it in so the handles face left and right rather than fron to back.

Thats a good idea Perissa, I have a horse size haybar it seems massive and it looks as though he has to stretch so far for his hay, I used to put straw in the bottom of it.

I know this is not relevant to your problem, but my mare used to throw the hay / haylage around the stable if she didn't like it. I put a tie up ring really low down on the wall inside the haybar so I could tie a haynet up inside the haybar. It works! It also slows eating time down too.

Hope this helps anyone else.
