My poor lady is really suffering this year. She's fit and ridden 5/6 days a week. At the start of May the mild cough that she suffers from over the winter started getting worse. Vet was called, bloods taken (clear) and given a prescription of ventapulmin for two weeks. Cough is better but her breathing is seriously bad.
Went for a short hack last night, with a very short gentle trot, and she could hardly catch her breath. Just a couple of dry coughs, but the breathing thing was seriously worrying - it's made her really lethargic when she's usually quite fiesty. She had a nose net on. I've left a message with the vet that I want to have her scoped just to rule anything really sinister out, and am going to find her some NAF respirator boost and Shake Free on advice from NAF helpline.
Her breathing is okay when not ridden, but still quite shallow. Has anyone else had experience of this or got any advice before I worry myself to death?
Thanks

E

yepmine has been similar. was scoped and showed inflamation and was puton inhalers one was like ventipulmin the other a sterioid for the inflamation and we are now bk to c work being ridden 4/5 x wk for up to an hour staring to incresse now as was off for a month prior to this. also now reducing inhalers now one on one once adaycoughing greatly reduced only coughed twice in the last 3wks (one was typical infornt of vet when i had just said how well she was doing havingnot coughed in ages!!!!!).
guess would depend on what is causing it as to what is best to do. once you have had her scoped you should have a better idea might be best not to work her until then though. gd lk

dont know if this will help but I've found it helps my lad, he's on NAF respiraze and when he's turned out we have sown a flap of T shirt material to the nose band of a head collar just long enough to cover his nostrils whilst hes grazing to act as a pollen filter. We also top his field as often as we can get the YO to.
