Has anyone ever repaired the above or know where you can source spare parts. Retailing at over £600 for a new one I am thinking of asking my husband to take it apart and try and find out why it isn't working.

Given that they are so similar to kettles and wallpaper steamers, best guess is element or thermostat. No idea on being able to replace either. But buy spares have lots of spare parts for any number of things

Give haygain a call. The switches stopped working and the boiler wouldn't turn on.

I phoned haygain and they were very helpful. I ordered parts from them and had a local electrician fit them and service the boiler.

They also offered the option to send the boiler to them and they would repair it.

Our boiler died a couple of years ago and we were shocked at the price of a replacement. We bought a cheap steam wallpaper stripper (about £35 from Screwfix) and attached the Haygain rubber hose to the boiler tank and it works fine. I also use a timer now so I don't forget to switch it off as the replacement boiler doesn't have such a large water tank but it certainly provides enough steam for an hour.

Thanks for your suggestions. My husband spent the entire day following a youtube video and took the thing to pieces. Unfortunately he couldn't find anything wrong with it.

We have the haygain 2000 which is the big one. Would a wallpaper steamer be man enough and how did you connect the steamer to the chest?

I tried making a hay steamer with a wall paper remover steamer, it certainly creates steam but didn't get it anywhere near hot enough to kill spores and I'm sure I read somewhere that if it doesn't get as hot as it should, it actually encourages the growth of bacteria. I'd be getting an electrician to take a look...No disrespect intended to your husband, of course!

Ours is the half-bale sized steamer which is square, I can't remember what the model number is. It is 10/11 years old. I really don't know if the wallpaper steamer like ours would be man enough to work for the 2000 steamer. We connected the steamer by connecting the Haygain's heat-proof hose to the wallpaper steamer. The temperature does reach the required heat on the dial on top so think it is doing the job. My timer has pre-set increments of 30, 45, 60 and 120 minutes. I usually use the 60 minute setting and have occasionally used the 2 hour setting but find the water gets low in the steamer unit, but it has not actually boiled dry yet. Hope this helps.

It is likely the element, is your husband an electrician can he test the element? Haygain are really helpful if you call them, and parts are reasonable. We sent one back for a new element i cant remember how much it was but it wasn't horrific. Then we had a faulty power lead that they diagnosed over the phone and sent one out, I have some basic electrical skills so changed this my self.
