Haygain steamers

We bought our Haygain system 3 years ago with a boiler which now has been replaced. Has any one else had problems with the old type boiler? Ours now after 3 years has packed up, and considering it has had little use as on a private yard and only in the winter months I am very disappointed as a new one to replace it is £400.
 
ouch mine is only a year old so I cant help but I wont be impressed if that happens in another 2 years! what have they said? is there anything they are saying that would contribute to it packing up? ive run mine dry by accident a couple of times. don't get scaling though here so that's an advantage
 
I'll be interested in the replies to this as mine is about the same age too. I have been having some problems where it wasn't coming up to temperature so I replaced all of the hoses at great expense...85 quid or so... Ouch! It is getting hotter now but maybe still not as hot as it used to get?
 
That's why I have gone on this forum, have contacted them and they are not being very helpful. They admit the boiler we had was soon replaced as it was not up to standard. We have bought the stuff to descale from them too which hasn't helped. We are asking for a discount on a new boiler as they themselves have admitted to the previous boiler was not up for the job, but they refuse. We are now waiting for someone to phone back
 
Hi Tiddlepiddle we had that problem too, and when I rang up about it hey said we should use the de scaling , which we did and it still cut out. The switch also packed up, so we had a new one. Then it started to leak, a little at first and now just pours out!
 
Oh crikey, I don't have problems like that to be fair. Just the temperature. Mine goes to 95 max but I'm sure that it was a few degrees hotter. Trouble is that it makes a huge difference as to whether my horse starts coughing or not. Before I changed the hoses it was only making 85. We due de-scale ours too but no difference.
 
I can not believe their attitude, they admit the boiler we bought was a paint stripper boiler and was adapted for steaming hay. We were not told this when we bought it and was under the opinion it would last years. It in fact has lasted less then 3 years and that is only using it in the winter. So in fact the steamer has not saved us any money and we have to pay out more now £400 to buy a new boiler to be able to carry on using it. The steamer is very good in what it does have no problem there, but feel that as the original was not fit for purpose, they are in the wrong not us. We told them we were upset and insulted with their offer of £20 discount , and now waiting for them to contact us again
 
I made my own hay steamer with two wallpaper steamers run in to an old plastic water tank; total cost less than £100. It's been running perfectly, summer & winter, for coming up to 4 years now. I wouldn't give £400 for one even if it ran well!
