I'm coming round to this idea. It would mean filling up every other day or maybe 2-3 days depending on what size I had and would save me loads of time and tramping across a wet field in the middle of the night on the way home from work. I have two horses, the younger one's a bit bossy and greedy but will tolerate sharing a pile of hay.

Trouble is don't know whether to get a pair of small ones or one large??

I use large, square bale haylage and they have 1-2 flaps each per day depending on weather, they only tend to waste it when it's raining so it would keep it drier too.

So what size do yolu have, how much do you stuff in it, what do you put in it and for how many horses, help please!

I would love a couple of these, atm i have haynets on fencing which i know everyone will tut at. But needs must & i cant have haylage going to waste.

Would you Let me know how you get on with them if you get one.

i had/have two of the medium ones. used them last winter no problem then this winter my youngster put her foor through it. she came away with a few scrapes. broke the hayhutch. and now i have put the other one away to.

My horses are on the farm next to the lady that makes them (well she doesnt make them literally) and I've discussed them at length with her.
The largest hay hutch can be used by six horses so you can get a serious amount of hay in one.

I myself fancy the medium ones but as I am now going to take my horses off their paddock for a while I havent yet bought any but I certainly will for the future as they will save money, mess in the field, waste and time and effort.

They are easy to move around as you just turn them on their side and roll them like a tyre.

I've been using the large one this winter for my 2 horses and donkey and think it's terrific. Hardly any wastage, the hay stays dry and there's very little arguing as the animals can always just move round the other side of the hutch. Also it can easily be rolled to a new spot to reduce poaching.

I use small bales - I could easily fit 2 in but because I know they would simply stand and eat till there was none left I put a varying amount in (depending on weather) night and morning.

I've never had any problems with it but I can see how horses could put their feet into it if they were determined.

I really like the look of these - I do worry about the arguing though. I've got the most intolerant little group of neddies. At the moment I put piles of haylage out - the lead gelding will go round each pile driving the others away. If he sees one of the others eating a pile he has to then have that pile. If he's not in the field then my other gelding takes over this role. And my broodmare won't let my rising two-year-old eat from the same pile - though the filly is starting to challenge her status... won't be too much longer until it's the other way round.

Why can't my horses just love each other?!
