sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I just thought it would be the best place!!!

Ok well I have my farming pony club test tommorow and need to know how to make haylage? Just the simple steps, nothing technical.

And if anyone can explain or knows some websights about farming machinery(i only know tractor

thanks!

To make simple haylage you just bale hay and wrap it in bale wrap you can put additives in but you don't have to. try google and type in things like topper, muck spreader, baler. chain harrow. also 3 breeds of sheep are jacob, texel and cheviot and 3 cow breeds could bee devon red, limousin dexter. hope this helps! good luck!

To make haylage
1. Mow grass
2. Ted grass using tedder (essentially spreads it about to help dry)
3. Row up with tedder
4. Bale the haylage
5. Wrap the bales
6. Bring to stack / barn using a squeezer on a front end loader or telehandler.
7. Ideally protect bales with nets or sheets to stop birds pecking holes in it.

We generally only ted (= turn) the haylage once or twice, whereas with hay you might do a little more as you want it drier.

thanks you two, I just needed to know how to get the haylage into the binbag basically!
so grow it, sprread/flatten it, row it, then bale it, right?
thanks, I'll google them words!
