haylage and ulcers??

I'm soo to move my loan pony who has previously had ulcers to a new yard that puts haylage in the fields. He will be fed ad lib hay but I'm not sure if he can eat the haylage in the field? The other horse in the field can only eat haylage so I can't really ask for hay to be put down instead. I want to prevent ulcers as much as I can but I'm not sure if haylage will affect this, or what I should do?

I wouldn't want to feed haylage to an ulcer prone horse. I'm guessing they get turned out in pairs - could they move the pairs round so that yours can go in with another horse who eats hay? Failing that, could you fence the field so they have half each with hay in one half and haylage in the other? Not ideal and I wouldn't want my horse turned out alone but you may have no choice.

this link should help set your mind to rest. Haylage does vary depending on the type of grass used and how dry is it when baled. Some of my haylage is more like hay as it is really quite dry

My ulcer prone mare could only have haylage and my vet at the time saw no problem with this when asked about it.

Its good for them to have a mixture of both. The ulcer specialist who scoped mine said he should have free choice of both so i wouldnt worry

It's a riding school so there's a herd of about 50 school ponies who also have haylage in the field and then the only other horse that goes out in a different field that I'm allowed to turn out with is my friends horse (which is the one that can't eat hay). They only haylage the fields theough the winter so it won't be much longer hopefully, I just want to avoid it as much as possible.
