All my local suppliers seem to have run out of hay - aargh! Looks like I’ll have to move on to haylage, but one of my horses is prone to loose, watery droppings, and I’m concerned haylage could be too rich for him. My local supplier has either high fibre or meadow haylage available, wondering which would be best? The meadow one is lower calorie, which appeals as will also be feeding natives on it, but the high fibre one might be better for the loose chap. They do all share at times so would be hard to feed different types.

I’ve not fed haylage for years and am not clued up on the different types.

I think it needs to be dry haylage rather than the very moist stuff, especially if already suffers from loose poo. Perhaps feed with a gut balancer like Protexin or activated charcoal while on it. Alternatively Alfalfa / chaff in a Trug.
