hi everyone

Looking for little bit of help please.

I have got to start buying my own haylage and was just wondering what make of haylage do you buy.

I have been looking at mainbale-J&R tremain ryegrass and marksway-horsehage ryegrass . Does anyone use this type of haylage

Also how long would 1 bag last for i sort of worked it out was thinking 3ish days 8pounds am 8pounds pm

or does anyone use a different type of haylage

i live in sussex(brighton) and the cheapest i could find was for £7.00 for the mainbale or £7.20 for horsehage , does anyone know where i could get it cheaper

thank you everyone :)

aim for meadow grass, open bales should be used within 10 days, but be warned haylage is lower in feed value than hay, so add about a third more per hoss.

I would suggest you fing a large bale supplier, these retail at 20-45 per bale, and are more economical and alot of supplier swill deliver

I am lucky as my supplier does 6 for £150 :)

i would love to get a big bale but i can't becasue its only for 1 horse and i heard once it is open it will only last a week which would be no good for me which is why i would have 2 buy small bales but thanks anyways

yeah im thinking about getting the mainbale but just trying to see if i could get cheaper anywhere

anyone else use any differnt make of haylage

Hi,

I have tried Marksway, frieze forage and Mainbale. For me the winner is Mainbale, the horses voted this one too ! Its great, not wet and smelly like most of them. Can't say how long it lasts as my lot (5) get thru it too quick but would trust it to last 3 days ! I have never found any mould spores on it and I have found lots in both the other makes, even found a lump of metal in a frieze forage !

Honestly every bale of mainbale has been exactly the same and there is never any wastage !

Hi Lucy,

Count yourself lucky, here in west kent I pay £7.25 to £7.49 but there is 25kg per bale as opposed to 20kg in the others, it really does go further i use much more Horsehage and Freize Forage than I do Mainbale. Your horse will love it all mine have. Frieze Forage is close to Mainbale but I still think the quality is better !
