Hi. So my mare is loads better in haylage. Hurray.

Now the problem of keeping her busy on less forage. She has always had at lib and is now a little peeved.

There are so many nets at varying prices I need guidance.

She has a hay saver but is getting very cross with it and bashing it around as somehow it is always empty!!

I need something which is a decent size. But small holes.

Is there any reason why you are feeding less? The nutritional content will be similar to hay, I never worried too much about it. Double netting works, or split the ration between three or four nets so that she can move around and 'graze.' A hay pillow might keep her busy, but be careful if you have rats on the yard as they like to nest in them!

i like the miss piggy nets for a cheaper option that still works, the black ones are huge and they also stretch an awful lot

I have the largest size of the Harry's Horse slow feeder nets. They have a loop at each side that can be used to hang via trigger clips onto bars/tie rings. I put a zip in mine, but it does come with ties at the open edge.

Trickle nates are v expensive but also very good. I swore I'd never buy them again because they are a pain in the butt to fill but they've got a new design which they say is easier so I've ordered 3.

Also in theory you should feed more haylage by weight not less because it contains more water and the aim is to feed the dame amount of fibre. But it is also generally higher in protein therefore could contribute to weight issues.

Currently with mine I put half their ration into 2 nets then put one inside the other. This means they can eat the first half quite quickly when they come in hungry and the second half takes longer to eat.
