Haylage - what should I do?

I recently purchased some haylage at not insignificant expense £30 per bale for 150kg bale. On opening one of the bales I found (luckily in the first slab) parts of a broken bottle! I obviously did not use the bale and am very loathe to use the final few I have left. Do you think I should contact the supplier and ask for a refund on the one containing the glass? And maybe the others that I don't want to risk using?

Deftinately....I would have rung them already!

It's worth a go I suppose. We usually get a few bits of debris in our haylage, but more along the lines of sticks and rocks, rather than actual litter, so not a problem. Our suppliers are usually quite good about replacing bales we can't use because they are mouldy etc though.
I would be surprised if they would refund you for the unopened ones though.

I would normally agree with this, but broken glass seems a bit more tricky

I don't mind if my horse finds a crisp packet in her hay as she will pick round it quite happily and leave it on the floor, but I would not feed anything that might have glass in it.

Lou I don't mind sifting through rubbish such as sticks and stones, you expect that but I draw the line at broken glass. I collected all the larger pieces but certainly not risking my horses for the sake of £30! There could be really tiny pieces of glass that could be missed
