Which do you find easier? Big square bales or big round? And what do you do in winter? Do you give your field a whole bale everytime they finish, or do you just give a bit morn/evening/both??
I find the squares easier as the split up nicely in slices and I don't have to walk around in circles while filling haynets If I was going to feed a whole bale in the field, though, I would have gone for the round ones to fit into ring feeders. As it is, I just give them bits to nibble on, so no handling issues there.
We have round ones, if you are wanting to put it out in the field round bales are good as go in feeding rings but square ones are easier for filling nets. We put a bale out in field and so on, the ones that come in just have it at night and in bad weather we put it out in field with them but only piles then!!
Yeah im not going to be putting bales into the fields next year expecially after this year, were they just stand in it!! I did not pay hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of pounds for them to use the haylage as hoof warmers!! So next year there getting handfuls thrown in the hedges! Expecially as the two big boys come in at night and have massive haylage nets and then im left with a sec A, Shetland and a Cob who dont really need to be on a big round bale stuffing themslefs!!
