How long should you leave haylage to make in the bale before using it? I have been told different things by different people and the time varies between six weeks and six months.

How long do you all leave yours?

Thanks.

Not sure of the hard and fast rule, but ours was made end of July, and we will start using it the beginning of Oct. I imagine it would need a min of 6 weeks but certainly not 6 mnths....

Well the general idea is to bag it in the summer for winter use... so I guess you hear right... between 6 weeks and 6 months depending.

Never any hard and fast rules in farming :)

If you open it and the bale is cool inside then fermentation had finished and it is safe to feed. Haylage treated with an additive such as Ecobale which is basically a harmless bacteria additive, kickstarts fermentation and it can be safe to use in 3 weeks, 6 -8 weeks is generally a safe guide
