Any ideas please. I get small bale haylege . Originally I kept it inside but I now put it outside - in an effort to avoid the bottom layer of bales being nibbled and ruined.

I store them on pallets will loads of rat poison underneath regularly replenished but to no avail. Has anyone tried putting a layer of thick plastic under the bales to avoid nooks and crannies for them to nest/hide in? Otherwise I am stuck. Oh and Ive tried the high frequency thing - it didnt work.

I buy a pallet of small bale haylage, I found that putting on my concrete yard was fine and the rats/mice did not touch it. My friend bought small bales and put them in a stable and they were ruined.

Tracey - are they better off the pallet do you think - or is your pallet on the concrete ie there is a gap underneath?

Scotsmare - no cats but very lethal terrier - cant leave him out all the time though. He is very effective when he spots one (rare sadly)

I put the pallet directly on the concrete and the bales are piled on top of the pallet. Mice and Rats like to hide under stuff. Where there is clear daylight under the pallet I believe they are less inclined to lurk.

If you put the bales directly on the concrete, you also risk tearing or perforating the bags. I have used small wrapped bales and the sealed plastic type bag and never had a problem.
