Haynet filling gadgets...

Playing around with another of my ideas, so thought I would ask you guys for your views and wisdom......

Do you use one?

If so, it is good or could it be improved?

Do you find stuffing nets a bore?

All and any input welcome.
 
We have a home made one at our yard. It's great. It is basically a hoop on 3 legs, and there are hooks at 3 points around the hoop. It's very handy!
 
Yes, we have similar as sheep describes above - i don't use it that often though tend to use it more when some one has cabbage'd the bale and you can only get little bits out at a time
 
I use those big rubber buckets - put the haynet in it with the net edge looped over the budget edge, pop 3-4 sections in the net in the bucket, pull the strings together and hey presto!
 
Bang a couple of nails into the wall at about waist height and about 2 feet apart, hang the net over both nails and hey presto - cheap and cheerful and works a treat!
Alternatively, just put the haynet inside an old black dust bin and that will hold it open for you too
 
I have a ring that fastens onto the wall - we generally have the big round bales and it's a godsend. Wouldn't be without it now. It takes me 15 mins to do 6 large nets.
 
I've used a ring they are good. Bought one of those easy fill nets with the built in ring but find the top part of the net still gets in the way. Hadn't thought of folding it back tho so going to try that now!
 
Filing haynets is like torture. It gets done but until its about a third full its such a pain.

I really prefer to put it on the floor for them, its much more natural and saves time. Im not that keen on a hay bar, and I don't want lots of waste, so I used to put a couple of sections in a large tub trugg with a breeze block/heavy brick in the bottom so it wasn't easily turned over. Unless anyone has any better ideas on this theme?!
 
I use a bin!

Turn the net inside out over the top of the bin, put hay on top of bin with bottom of net flat underneath and the roll the sides of the net up.

This is with small bales so therefore sections, but works a treat!

(Hay nets are my worst job so I had to find a way to make them easier).
 
I loathe filling haynets too.
The hay gets fed from the floor but goes in the net first to be weighed and soaked.
Will try the bin method; thanks for the tip

I tend to just hold one bit of the net between my knees, hold the other side with one hand and scoop previously loosened hay in with the other hand. Looks a bit odd but it's always worked for me :)
 
My Dad made me a hay net holder which holds the hay net open at about waist height. He designed and built it after getting frustrated trying to help me with my nets. It works so well he ended up making three more for other people on my yard. It works really well!

Thats a good idea.Will save that tip for the cold winter mornings.!
 
I have a couple of the forge portable four hook hangers that you hang over post & rail fencing, I just hang the nets on these and stuff them with hay. Really easy. Have also put them over a large tub as well.
 
Stuff a shavings bag full of hay, put the hay net over the full bag, pull the (bottom) bag out of the hay net. Hay presto neat, filled hay net ��

It's also a good deal politer than the description I use!!!
