Haynets for the floor?

Had a physio to see my girl today and she recommended feeding hay from the floor and my girl is quite violent with her haynet and is straining her neck. Only thing is, she is a total food monster so she would gobble hay off the floor too quickly. The physio said there is a haynet type thing that you get to put on the floor but she couldn't remember the name - does anyone know what it is she is speaking about?

Is she shod? I've fed my barefoot horses off the floor in both stable and field with ordinary small hole haylage nets very successfully. I just pull tight, knot the string, then weave it round and round through the net until it's all gone...takes about a minute. If she's shod, I suppose she may catch herself up in the net though.

I normally feed hay from the floor. One of mine is a real pig with her hay but even so after the initial stuffing her mouth phase she seems to calm down and I don't think she finishes it that quickly. If she does she can always start on her bed as I bed on straw and am happy for her to eat that. Have you thought about bulking her hay out with straw to make her slow down her eating? I'm not a fan of nets on the floor as I would worry about them getting caught up in them.

I have done this for some years - we call them hay balls 'cos they get moved around like you wouldn't believe. Works very well unless the ground is really muddy, then we fasten them to the fence but at ground level. Never had a horse get a foot caught, and my horse is shod in front. But then he doesn't paw at food.

There is a net thing designed to go on the floor,I looked into getting one. I *think* it's called a grazing net. It's on the website of a woman who sells supplements & does iridology, I *think * she's called Ellen collinson or something like that. They look good but are quite expensive,£90 if I remember correctly. My horse is quite tidy so I've bought a large container that was £20 for his hay to go in but if that doesn't work I'll consider getting one of these nets.

Yeah - I did the tied up haynet thing & just knotted the string till it was all used up. My coblet was on 4 & a half months box rest & a friend suggested it - it was very successful. I tied nets up at the wall at night to stop her tripping over them in the dark !
