Hi

I am looking for a new trailer for a 15h wide cob and can’t decide between the IW 506 and 511. He travels well and would normally be on his own with no partition however, occasionally, we would be travelling my friends 14.3 cob (who isn’t nearly as wide) with him.

Any advice from people who trailer wide horses would be appreciated, I’m probably overthinking ?

Thanks in advance for any advice xx

You are overthinking. Unless he is wider than he is tall (always a possibility, I grant you...) he will fit in either trailer, with or without a partition. A picture of said beastie demonstrating his wideness would be helpful (and also enjoyable for all, I'm sure :) ).
?? thank you, if I could get a decent pic I’d post it he is a master of looking very dopey just as the camera clicks. I’ve made him sound huge ? he isn’t that bad, just didn’t want to make a mistake and regret not getting the bigger trailer...thanks for your post ?

I travel my very wide 15.3hh mare comfortably in an IW505 with partition happily. I do, however, always reverse her out as she feels she can't make the angle of the ramp if front unloading (and rushes in panic). Never ever think about unloading this way, we've been doing it for years.

I think he'll fit happily in a 506. I have a 16.2hh tank who has plenty of room in a 511. I think she would just squash into a 506 but we were advised to go for the bigger trailer and I'm glad we did. But a 15hh, even a tank, will be fine in a 506.

I had a 505 but had to sell it as it was too small for my cob. He grew out of it as a 3 year old, he’s 15.2 now . I travelled him with no partition but the trailer wasn’t long enough. I would go for the bigger one if you can.

I've had two chunky dales ponies in my 505, as long as the 2nd one doesn't mind squeezing in., I'd probably get the larger trailer if I ever replaced it

Years ago I was looking at the 505 and 510 for a 16hh horse after going in both I opted for the bigger one it just felt so much more roomy. I think both will be fine but as stated the bigger one will give you more options ?
