Hbx511 v cheval xl any thoughts?

Also interested. Read so many conflicting things. Some people say Ifors rattle but then others say they are better build quality.
I’m probably looking at a hb511 rather than the hbx

The ifors do rattle a wee bit but its the wee chains on the pins etc its not an alarming noise

We’ve got a cheval tourer, not the XL the standard one. Absolutely love it and everything travels well in it. Plus the tackroom is a godsend! Quality is fine, the door pins get a bit sticky when you open and close them so need a bit of WD40 every now and then.

I’d get the XL now if I was looking again as it has more space for bigger horses. I do like the ifors but the tack room swung it for me!

I have a cheval trailer although not the xl version and have no issues at all with the build quality it copes perfectly with my chunky natives and heavy weight cob. Also in one of the storms part of the barn roof fell on it and the only damage was a bit of a scuff to the paintwork. I'm not sure why people seem to think it's flimsy because it's not, I've not heard anyone that actually has one say they've had a problem with it. I wish now that I'd gone for one of the larger herringbone ones.

If one of mine didn’t prefer a side ramp I’d have gone for the cheval hands down. The newer ifors are pretty shoddy for build quality (bits breaking and falling off), plus the suspension on them is not as good as most other trailer makes.

But I’ve got an Equitrek so what do I know 🤪.

Same!! A friend has a 4 horse maxi and it’s also fab! No issues at all. I like the front facing though the maxis just seem massive haha

I will hopefully be in the market for a CL when Wig is back in action and I've replaced the money in my new trailer fund that I had to spend on 2 MRI scans instead. All the research I've done suggests the suspension is much better on the CL and results in a much smoother ride for the horses. Having said that, I'm perfectly happy with my 20 year old 510. My trailer servicing man said the late 510s were the best trailers IW ever made and the newer ones are nowhere near as good, he's forever repairing them.

That smart shiny black plastic front nose cone on the Chevals?

Thin single skinned plastic, not even sturdy enough to screw a cctv camera weighing a few grams to. It would have to be glued on - that nugget was passed on to us first hand by the main UK Cheval dealer in Corwen when we went to view Cheval trailers with the full intention to buy new.

Good luck to your horse if a rock gets thrown up off the road in transit and impacts the front section 😳.

They looked so smart lined up on the forecourt, but even my husband who liked the lower prices of the Chevals declared them not fit for purpose. The fittings are very flimsy, too.

You see plenty of Chevals about, but I wouldn’t travel a horse in one.

The barn roof complete with attached timbers fell on that shiny front bit of mine and it just left a slight scuff to the paintwork not even a tiny crack or dent or anything so I'm sure it will cope if a rock or something gets thrown up at it.

I just have the standard tourer but the CL tows beautifully. I’d hardly know I was pulling anything.

Mine wintered out all last year and half of this winter and we’re off the top of Scotland. It handled it no bother

my CCTV camera is on the tack locker inside the trailer facing the horses, it’s not on the nose bit?

Had mine 3 years and no holes from flying rocks! 🤣

A friend had the large CL, that takes three herringbone, and had huge problems with parts of the suspension (I want to say wishbone among other bits but probably have that wrong) cracking. Which was compounded by the parts taking months to arrive. A few years later after having an IW in the interim they bought another CL, a few months in and the ramp struts failed and there was also a major problem with jockey wheel. Again the parts took a very long time to arrive to dealer. Both were purchased new from dealer.
