My boy does not like the syringe. However the last time he was wormed a friend did it ands he was fine ( so it seems as usual it was me upsetting him :S)

I usually mix it in with his feed, but he has now sueesed me. I may ask my firend to do it again, but would rather do it without him knowing.

Any ideas, I have bought an quite expensive wormer do do not wont to waste it.

Try getting a veterinary syringe and put pureed apple in it and give it to him every day. Try putting a towel over his eyes so he doesn't see it coming for the first couple of times.

He will then expect a sweet treat from the syringe. Good luck

Gail, wash out a used syringe. Buy some apple sauce. Practise worming with that. Don't hang off his head, hold the wormer in your free hand, have a hand gently over the top of his nose and move with him, he will drop his head eventually as long as you don't quit while he's fussing. When he drops his head don't go for it with the syringe, just rub his head, give him a break, and do it again. Build up gradually. As soon as he tastes the apple sauce you will be on the home run! It feels a bit mean on worming day, but give him some apple sauce in a syringe soon after (after the nasty taste has gone) and he won't hold it against you.
Also, why not do a worm count before you go ahead, as he's quite poor still it might be an idea to find out exactly what he needs.

Good idea. thanks guys. I have never thought of apple sauce. Had worm count done. Nothing. There is no reason for it. His attitude is deffiantly back, some times wish it was not. but hey ho, it is all good

Just a note on the Equimax tablets. Mine took them fine the first time.

They give you some placebos with them so you can try them first. However, they didn't want anything to do with them next time round!!!

The apple puree and jam doughnut are great ideas!
I must remember them!

I was boringly going to suggest have you tried grabbing hold of his tounge (slip hand in corner of mouth where bit goes, grab and hold, if you pull it out the corner it stops them biting down and they don't like pulling back on their tounge) and inject in with the other hand, then hold his head up till he swallows. Strangely I have found this works best with head shy horses (...go figure...)

I have heard of coring out a carrot and filling the center with wormer, never tried it though

I have tried all these things with my pony, none of it worked, not even the apple puree in an empty syringe. So I got an Easy Wormer bit after asking the vet's advice. It has made life easier as now I can be sure that all the paste goes into the pony, I can (with a bit of sleight of hand) get the paste into the bit without the pony even seeing the syringe, there is no stress and nobody gets hurt.

I have the same problem with one of mine - cant even look in her mouth but dentist has no problem. Recently moved yards and then paddocks and she is due soon and I am dreading it. I usually put in feed and leave in her stable and by morning its gone. Except she is living out now. Someone recommended putting it in a marmite sandwich? Anyone tried that?

easiwormer plastic bit thingy, she still hasn't worked it out 5 years down the line and she would be practically taking front feet of the floor before
