He fell off!!!!

Gareth age 11, has only fell off Penny again (twice this month) he is not hurt only sore a bit , he was doing a double jump and put his left leg too far back and Penny thought he wanted her to turn, so bless her she did but Gareth didnt!!! went out side door...he is now mortified cos all of Pony Club saw him fall, gaspes all round"Oh Gaz has fell off" he got back on and did it 2nd time, but its the first time I have seen him come off and my heart did bop a bit...his instructor did comment its because he is doing more advanced stuff now and with it comes more risk of getting it wrong. Ah well 2 calpol amd a hot bath for him... Penny just stood there and waited for him, she is so so good for a TB.

At his ages I was falling off on a regular basis. It is a great learning curve. And at his age you bounce more.

Hope he is not feeling too bruised.

Ah yes, the joys(!). Seen Daughter go in to the poles more than once (thanks LL!). Seen her fly through the air off BC. She's seen me hit the deck twice (called 999 the second time).

All part of the territory, and I don't think it gets any better

My neice spent more time on the floor/in hedges/in jumps etc between the ages of 6 - 10 than anything else!!

Has been a rare occurence since then so comes as a bit of a shock - but she has learnt how to fall!!

Have you never herd the saying "your not a proper rider until you've fallen off 100 times " I used it with my 10 year old sister and she is actually keeping a log now each time she ends up on the floor now we get "oh well only 82 more to go" as she brushes off her jods !

My friend fell off 7 times at one PC Rally when he was that age!

My sister, age 7, had a rather naughty little pony who used to take off then halfway over the fence spin and bugger off back away from the fence! If she stayed on, he buck until she gave in... Once on a XC course the commentator called "Pony on the loose, pony on the loose", Smokey came galloping home with Alice legging it after him. Remounted, set off again, a few minutes later "Pony on the loose, pony on the loose, it's the same pony!".

It was 7 when I was younger. If it's any consolation I also fell off today - I seem to be making a habit of it since the 18 years dry spell.

Anyone want a bomb proof cob that stops then cat leaps fences?

I think it's especially hard for boys, no sooner do they get their balance than their shoulders stretch by a foot.

Will has suddenly become balanced - he's 5.10 & 14. He used to spend more time on the ground than on the pony. One PC camp, he fell off 3 times in half an hour. At a show he once fell off 5 times, once off each pony in the warm up, twice of one pony in the ring and once off the other. I don't know how my nerves stood it. Poor thing used to get really battered and bruised, still he's not riding much at the moment thankfully, just playing front row for 2 rugby teams....

I share your pain sienamum.
My son not only rode but played (and still does play) front row rugby.
he's 27 now and only a couple of weeks ago I had a phone call from him to say he was in A&E for stiches to an eye injury. A week later he was playing again.
A mother's lot eh?
