Well - the horse hunt is well and truly over. Prospective horse was vetted this morning and passed. He will be coming home tomorow, he is being transported as with only 5 wks to go before I give birth I can't actualy get behind the wheel of my lorry!

What will I do with myself now, I have been scanning the internet adds on a daily basis, just about every weekend since christmas has been spent viewing at least one horse, long debates over meals about the merits or not of various horses. Perhaps my little D should have her 1st pony now she is 3!!!!!

Surprisingly of the 14 horses we have viewed there have been no shockers, just some slight exaggerations, rose tinted specatacles and a few elastic measuring sticks. Either people have been honest or we have got better at 'weeding out'.

Plan is to get jabs, teeth & feet done PDQ and see how long we have to wait for the saddler (downside of using someone good!).

For those who havent seen my previous thread he is a black, gelding, rising 5, ID x (poss 3/4 or 7/8ths ID). He has no name :( so that will no doubt be a whole new thread. His job will be all round RC horse for big D, family friend and hopefully quiet enough for me to have lessons on from time to time - I can't wait to have a sit on him!

Anyhoo - here is one pic taken at the viewing, big D will be cross as she looks a bit weird on it, she was about to do or say something! Millions more to follow once he comes home.

He is isnt he! I expect he will fill out a bit more and could do with some muscle on his back end. We havent had a gelding for years. We were looking for a cob following the suddden loss of our super cob in November and found we were being drawn to similar looking greys. I think it is probaly healthier to go for somehting completely different so we cant compare too much.

Big D has just got home from the vetting - better go and hide the Robinsons & Rideaway catalogues!

He's very lovely :) Just slightly more handsome than my old black Irish share ;) - think he's another Murphy... tho that is very unoriginal!

What a lovely type of boy, love his little feathers!!! He's one substantially beautiful lad and he looks like he's been polished! Odd, but I immediately thought of Fafnir for a name (that's a dragon from a comic). You look lovely on him - and I'm jealous of the depth of weight you can get in your heel!!

He is gorgeous!

What about Jenson, Clive, Frank or Hector for names!!?

We like Hector - but we might of already snaffled that for the baby if its a boy! When he arrives tommorow we will lokk at what his sire and Dam are called. Big D likes mythological names and rock bands, her last horses show name was the The Iron Maiden - after the HM band, we did think perhaps 'The Darkness' (Local lads to us), or Black Shuck - local legend plus a darkness song. But we would still need a stable name. Hmmm

Sadly its not me looking lovely on him, thats my big D Sophie, I am 35 wks pregnant and if I could haul my fat carcass on him I certianly wouldnt look so lovely and slim. I will just have to wait for my turn.

Fafnir is quite cool. At the yard they have been calling him Bournville, but hes only been there 3 or 4 weeks so dont suppose he has learnt it. Bournville doesnt slip from the tounge very easily (slips down my throat though) and we all keep forgetting it. So far he has accidentialy been called Bisto and Bovril and Bovis.

now either Big D isn't very big or that is one hunking great lad she's sat on:D
Very nice and congratulations:D

Big D is fairly tall 5 7 or 8 - all leg, didnt get them from me. Black lad is about 15.3, she has struggled to find something to take up her leg that isnt around 17hh. Her last girl was only 15.1 but a Percheron x with a huge barrell and shoulders so no such issues.

I love Black Shuck, as it made me chuckle :D

Bovril is the cutest name for a hoss like him as well... Plus, whoever calls their horse by it's actual name?! Reggie is usually Fregga (hard g) :D

I hope S has a lovely time on him and we'll see you out and about lots this summer!
