Omg went out for a nice hack in the forest last night and on the way back,we always have to cross over 2 very slippery bridges!
My boy fell on to his back legs then down onto his front I jumped of! But got wedged into the fence!
He was so awear, not to struggle as I would have been squashed to death!
My fellow riders jumped of to help he tried to get up but his front feet sliped! He tried again and managed it. He Got up fine.
A few cuts but that's it. Hosed his legs and medicated the cuts.
My problem is his history-
He is 17h big boned IRS x shir x tb 18 years old has bad autheritus ans is on bute . Has them treated also 2 lots of tildren but no good.
Anyway he is comfortable and we just hack out which he loves.
What other damage could he of done..?
We are travelling to France in 2weeks!
Any advice
X

Difficult to comment on his injuries without seeing them.

But my advice is to always get off and lead over slippery bridges. ;)

Hope he gets better soon x

How come these bridges are so slippery? Would road nails help? How likely is it to happen again as you could even put knee and hock boots on. If he's already arthritic things like this won't help!

Bless him its hard to say whether there is anything else you should worry about without seeing it, you wouldn't want to get any grit into the joint for example.

You can always phone the vet for advice, they don't charge for that!

Thank you yes I trotted him up this evening and his front right leg looks a bit short, also found some moor cuts.
Yes I will always lead over bridges from now on.
I have contacted the forest agency to report the bridges.
Think I may get a vet.
he did lay down last night which is good
