Temperature has inched into double digits and now my forehead has produced red welts over forehead after wearing hat. What the hell can I do? It looks hideous. Still have them several hours later. I have pathetic, sensitive, Celtic skin that faints and goes red at any weather. But this is ridiculous. I only rode for an hour and was not overly-sweaty.
Does anyone else get this? Or is it just my stupid skin. Quite cross with it.

You can buy little disposable strips that attach to the inside of your hat, where your forehead is - I wonder if they'd help? Not sure what they're called - little hat sticky onny thingmajigs perhaps?

My hat does this! It's because it's old and the ingrained sweat causes a contact dermatitis. I wear a tubi-grip on my head to stop the contact between skin and hat, but buying a new hat at the weekend!!

Is it a new hat? If not have you been cleaning the lining with something that you haven't wiped away properly perhaps?

I got this when I rented a flat without central heating and rode every evening but my hat didn't really dry properly so eczema type reaction on my forehead. Been fine for over ten years but just lately it has been reacting more and possibly due to stress causing it to flare up more but also time for new hat ;)

Hat is a ventilated Champion. And I only ever give it the gentlest of cleans and stick it out often to air.
Think it is my useless skin, not hat. The tissue idea is possibly a good one. I don't know what a tubigrip is.
I may try a cotton headscarf inside hat to absorb sweat. Sort of fifites fashion!
As for the dermatatis. I sympathise a lot. We need stronger skin! When I went through a meltdown three years ago, I developed excema (how the hell do you spell that?) on my hands and feet. Had never had it before. Maybe my face is now joining in. Really not good.

Try a really thin beanie hat that you can wash underneath it? Or a Buff (those stretchy cotton multi use head tube things that you can put round neck or over hair etc) as they are stretchy and thin and would stay in place better than a plain scarf

I have this problem although mine tends to be worse in winter where I sweat under my hat (sorry not very elegant) and then the cold air hits my skin. I now put a fleece hat on straight after and this prevents it generally. I am however I think slightly allergic to my sweat so I got some steroid cream from the doctor which I put on when it starts to itch and I also use oilatum children's eczema cream every day on my forehead instead of moisturiser. Touch wood this has worked for me in the last year. Another ingenious tip - I had a fringe cut so now if my head does get sore no one can see it :D

I have tried panty liners the lot nothing worked for me except my current regime (!) but I think I must have exceptionally sensitive skin!

Thank you so much for your replies and tips. The stress of my skin looking crap is making me stressed! Worse as I get older.
I love the panty-liner idea. What if it slips down? But I can see the point of the sweat soak-up.
Tilda, I think you and I could have UK's most useless skin competition. It is rubbish, isn't it? I'm getting some of the oilatum cream, though.
And the Buff products, was it Billabong, suggested that? I'd never heard of them. Looked them up. They look fantastic. I'm buying one!
Have just deep cleaned hat, rather then do a skimmy on it. Half of liner bits have fallen out. Possibly a bad move. Skin will probably now have a reaction to glue I need to use to re-instate them. Oh to have thick, robust skin.

I know a nightmare you might need to get some of the steroid cream first if it is still sore then use the oilatum. I resorted to the fringe because I was literally ashamed to go out in public I hadn't had one for 15 years although quite like it now!

A big kiss to all of you. It might be over the internet, but it's nice to know people care.
I wish I could do the fringe, Tilda, but I have the curse of mad Celtic hair to match the skin. Think it would just stand up looking freaky.

I did a search to se if it was what I thought it was, and yes, Tubigrip is a tubular bandage.

Panty liner on head not a good image. I had a hat that used to give me lobster head, that turned into lizard head, then into flaky head (forehead). The whole process took weeks. I started wearing a cotton bandana on my head and it stopped it. A bit better looking than a panty liner....

It is wearing a tubigrip, so it must be wounded!

But hopefully the bandage helped and it got well again, and it was so cute with its bandage on , that I had to use it in my reply.

:D

You two have just made me belly laugh. Good for the soul and the skin. Do hope the guinea pig rallied. He does look very cute.

Teehee this thread has made me chuckle, I'm imagining a lizard headed person with wild red curls going into sainsburys with a panty liner on their head... To buy more tubigrips for their guinea pig?

That is me! Apart from the guinea pig but will soon be acquiring panty liners. Check-out man in Sainsbury's was flirting with me yesterday - honestly, me, lizard-head in jods and frizzy hair. Are they on commission now? Who cares. I'm back in his line next week. He was cute.
But also thank you for all your help and tips. Means a lot.

Yes 'twas me re the Buff idea; they sold them in the surf shop I used to help in and I've also been given them in goody bags at triathlons. Very handy for a multitude of things especially cold winter days when you want your lower face covered up! They wash really well too and don't lose elasticity.

I think its all the sweat. I sweat like a pig and have taken to putting my hat in the dishwasher top shelf with no powder on a regular basis.

However I have been told that this is extremely dangerous as all the air comes out. Don't think so though so am backing my judgement and doing it still but this post DOES come with a health warning!

Mine's a Charles Owen. I have tried steaming the foam over the kettle and now just clean with dettol wipes and leave to dry. Nothing seems to stop it happening just have to treat it quick!

Air comes out of where?

Helmet = layer of plastic, layer of polystyrene and layer of foam backed material
