I am after some head clippers - I have bought the £12 ones off eBay for a couple of years but the quality has gone significantly downhill from lasting around 2 years to barely working at all now and not holding charge.

I am happy to spend the money now having been fed up with going cheap but my current Wolsleys have done 30 years being looked after and serviced so would like the same.

Criteria - quiet, battery, not too heavy and able to do the fiddly bits like heads and elbows. Ideally under £100

I've been using a pair of Wolseley Swift clippers on my horses for the last 25+ years. They've continues to run well all this time & have had them serviced only a couple of times. Additionally I saw a set of Wolseley clippers for sale on Market Place for sale. They were about the same size as human hair clippers and were rechargeable. I cannot remember the name of them , they are in my tack room at the yard. We rarely use them but use mainly for tidying up around their feet. Check with Wolseley they should be able to tell you what they are. I'd always go with Wolseley because in about 25+ years of horse ownership I've only ever purchased the two mentioned clippers & they've never let me down.

It is more money than you want, but I switched over to using Liveryman Harmony Plus clippers last year to do whole body and fiddly bits and I'm very happy with the purchase. They're extremely quiet, lightweight and easy to deal with. I can do a full clip on one charge.

I have Swifts. They go in for a service and then come out of the service not costing me very much and have done so for 30 years. Amazing really. They are just a bit too big for heads and elbows so prefer something a bit smaller especially for young horses (just clip random bits to get them used to it) to get them started with clipping as the swifts are noisy.

I think I have been eying them up. Having a lot of young horses they do appeal as quiet. The Shetland also prefers quieter clippers. Just seen the Harmony has a wide and narrow blade option so sold.

I have the Liveryman Harmony Plus clippers and they are light and quiet and you can get different size blades, small ones really neat. I got them for a pony who had never been clipped and was very nervous, now stands like a rock.

They are a really good option. I've had mine for many years.

They now also do a coarse cut wide blade (IIRC a 4.8mm cut) as well as the standard 2.4 mm wide blades, plus a vast range of cuts in the narrow blades.

I recently bought the Liveryman Nova trimmers for clipping heads. They are light weight, easy to manage and quiet and were only £50.

Another vote for the Liveryman Harmony. They were brilliant for desensitising my horse to clipping. I used to do full clips with them, but now use Xplorers for the full body and keep the Harmony for head and legs, where the lightness and narrow blades are an advantage.

I bought a set recently when my old clippers died mid clip.

Very impressed with them!
