Hi really need some advise regarding a mare Iv got on loan, Iv had her approx 3 weeks and hacked her out a few times however she insists on throwing her head about, she seems to do it more if I just let her mosey along, happy hacking, than if I ride her in an outline so Im not sure if shes just taking the mick or not, however she is also a pain to get her bridle on and off I was told by her owners that at some point earlier this year the bridle got stuck on her right ear and she went mental in the stable and as since not wanted it on again,I have managed to get it on but she seems to be getting worse with it so now Im wondering if there could be any more serious underlying issues and that the head shaking when being ridden and not wanting the bridle on are connected in some way.I know she had her teeth done around Feb, she is 8 years old, hunter type, little overweight at min,she as been diagnosed with mild arthritus in her front fetlock but as been sound for 7 months due to having injections of the vet and so is only for hacking any advise/ideas greatfully received

I would get teeth revisited firstly...

Is she the same in a headcollar? I would try a combination bridle if she isn't (Tis what has solved bridle problems for us) as you put it on and then put bit in afterwards

Probably have back and tack cehcked as course too incase it's not bridle specific and more bout expressing unhappiness to work

Check her ears for ear mites or whatever they are called

Has she had a change in bit?
