Head shaker Supplements!! Anyone use them?

Hi,

Recently bought my mare and was told by old owner she was not a head shaker just flicked her head at flies but to me she is a head shaker. She just flicks her head up alot and can be worse when flies are about but also nothing dangerous. I havent said anything to old owners as she is perfect in every way and i'm very happy with her. Also spoke to vet who also vetted her for me and he said it was difficult to prove as a horse might not head shake in one area but can in another.

Anyway have tried nose net and not had much improvement and someone suggested shaker guard as they had, had good results but i'm struggling to get her to eat her food with it in and don't want to feed her lots of food as she has put on weight on summer grazing so only feeding it in chaff.

Anyone used anything else with good results.

A friend knows a lady with a pony who head shakes and she has used everything and is now on some biscuit type things and said its improved her pony allot and my friend is trying to find out what they are but hasn't seen her yet. Any of you guys know what these are.

Any info much appreciated please.
 
Sounds like my horse. He's now on NAF shake relief and I do think it has made a difference. He still shakes a bit out hacking if the flies are very bad, but nothing like he did last summer.
 
I used 'Freeway' by Hilton Herbs - was fabulous
I didn't hold all that much faith for it but I was really suprised at the results. My horse head shook so much, he'd knock me in the face and give me nosebleeds and this supplement certainly stopped that, thank goodness!
Its a completely natural supplement and basically works by feeding your horse what makes it initially headshake, so that an immunity is built up. I would definately recommend them to anyone! Hope this helps!

I have been using Global Herbs shake free and def think its improved my horses symptoms, last year I tried the Naf supplement which I also think helped a bit - but they're both expensive

I use NAF Shake Relief and it made a big difference to my cob.

However, I also found a big improvement when I eventually found a saddle that didn't restrict his shoulders. Other people I know have relieved apparent headshaking symptoms by changing to a larger browband!

I think the biscuits are Lenry's Upper Respiratory Tract ones. Not tried them so can't comment. Nose nets made no difference to me either.
 
I use Shake relief on our lad and it has definately made a difference. We kept it at bay last year though by using a human hayfever nasal spray on him daily, bought it from Tescos for a few quid and sprayed 3 squirts in each nostril daily.... might be something to try if she wont eat food with the supplement in it....
 
I used NAF Shake Relief last year on a headshaker and it did make a difference. I had to give him the maximum dose for it to work properly but I suppose he was over 17hh!
All horses are different but it's worth a try.
 
NAF Shake relief, expensive, but superb results. A horse on the yard was in SO much discomfort it was horrid to watch. A big improvement when she was put on this.
 
For those of you with Headshakers that wear a Flash noseband have you tried riding without the flash strap?

I recently dealt with two horses that were confirmed headshakers. I removed the bottom strap and immediately they stopped.

If you need to hold mouth closed try a drop or a grackle, neither noseband lies across the soft part of the nostrils.
 
The biscuits for head shaking could be from a company called horsewise in NOrfolk I believe. They use a lot of chinese herbs and do biscuits for all sorts of minor ailments.
