My teeny weeny Welsh A has started to make some very odd movements with his head. Certainly only started since the good weather kicked off.

He sort of nods his head downwards in a fast jerk and I have also seen him strike a front leg at the same time but only once.

vvvvv concerned that this could be the start of something nasty????

Hopefully not the start of something but sounds quite like he is headshaking. Could be due to pollen, wind, sun and more! I have a headshaker due to pollen and a friend has one due to wind and sun!! If you can narrow down the cause there are a few products on the market that may help and also riding him in a nose net may help. Good luck xx

Does sound like head shaking I am afraid. I have recently started to excercise one of my liveries horses which does the same - a quick snatching movement up and down as if a fly has gone up it's nose! He also likes to rub his head on his leg too, but has only started to display this behavious since we have had dry and sunny weather, so am convinced it is head shaking.

The owner is novice and quite oblivious of his headshaking so I am going to make sure that is what it is before I tell her (!), but the first port of call will be a nose net, which will hopefully help.
