My pony Teddi, he was only backed in may, and since i've done a fair bit on him and he is uber great.

Just recently though he has started throwing his head randomly, its normally when i hack out and starts after about 20 mins riding.

He just throws his head straight up into the air, then if i flex a rein he stops for about a min, then does it again.

Im not sure why hes doing it, i dont think he's in pain or anything as he's the sort that would really tell you if he was. It could be anticipation?? im just not sure.

Any ideas??

Get his teeth checked.
Get his saddle checked.
Make sure the bit is suitable.
If all these are ok have a lesson with someone and possibly vet or veterinary physiotherapist to check the horse.

He is trying to tell you something and you just have to work through one thing at a time to work out what!

well i have the vet coming on the 14th for both my ponies to do teeth.

Maybe its the bit, but its only a loose ring snaffle.
His saddle is new, and still fits fine (only had it about a month) and had someone out to look at his back about 2 weeks ago too.

He only does it in walk thats why i thought it was strange, i did for a while think it was the flies, but im not sure thats the reason either. Plus he doesn't do it in the school.

im not really sure on the contact that i have, im not heavy handed though, and he doesn't really snatch at the reins when he does it.

A tush tooth.... shall now google this, so i can have a look tomorrow.
