What headcams have people tried/ can recommend?

My OH wants one for the skiing and I quite fancy trying one it out when riding as well. I know the GoPro 3 is probably the best on the market but is fairly pricey. Has anyone used a GoPro or any other sort of head/hatcam? Video's if you have them would also be great :)

The picture quality still looks good on YouTube for saying the quality has been reduced. Does it feel heavy on your head?

I am quite happy to ride in it and have never found it to unbalance me but my novice OH (who is wearing it in the clip) notices it at speed. They are not the lightest weight cameras available but securely fastened to a well fitting hat seems fine. I am planning on going XC in it next year.

Yes! (sorry I don't work for Go Pro, honest). We also have the chest mount but I haven't got any footage on this machine to share. It tends to be steadier but it depends on your position and the horse's head carriage as to how much you will see. I also wouldn't want to jump in the chest mount, even with a body protector on, just in case I landed on it as I suspect my chest would break before the camera!

Thanks for that. I was thinking about chest mounted as I was worried about what I would do to my head if I fell on it (I normally fall on my head and knock myself out when I fall off!), but think you are right about chest mounted. I would really love a go pro. Just would hate to spend that money and then break it or me the first time I came off.

I bought the Chilli Technology Action 3 HD 720P Head Cam this year. Wanted to have one for both xc and skiing.
Perfectly happy with it for xc, tho i have found that i bob my head a bit ( could be my horses canter- the is a trotter).

as above, had to choose a lesser quality for youtube. The only problem is the wind noise, so had to put selotape across the microphone.

The beauty of it is its so light and unobtrusive, people do not notice it.

Got it from amazon, cost around £50.

Thanks for the replies and video links guys, I shall look in to them all :)

My OH was talking about DogCam last night which is a bullet cam. Has anyone used a bullet cam when riding, as for skiing it will attach to the side of our goggles but I can't figure out what I would attach it to on my hat???

With the Chilli headcam its supplied with velcro holder and a strip of sticky velcro and a headband.(camera sits on side of head).
I converted an old petzl light headband so that when riding the camera could be on top of hat, so that you could see the jumps better.
Going to go to snowdome soon, so will try it skiing before the actual holiday. Have seen some vids on youtube with camera on boot, so will try that out as well!

OH took it out in his sports car.....came back with a really good clip.....could not tell that it was not a tv programe.

Good luck in what you choose. Every one has pros and cons.
