I've just bought a 2 year old and although he is halter broken, he is very hard to actually put his head collar on without having a fuss. Just wanted to see if anyone had any tips?

At the minute im being a big softie and using food in order to put it on, but i dont think this is going to have any long term effects in helping him to be easier haltering.

Any firmer tips that will work in the long run?

keep one headcollar on permanently and practise putting another one on top. Use food etc as normal, but having him securely in another headcollar makes it less stressful as you have more control.

First of all i would get the horse used to being touched and groomed all over its head and ears.
Then practice! Be calm and dont worry how long it takes.
