Headcollar Help?

Does anyone know where I can buy a headcollar with plastic fittings instead of metal? We have one at work for head xrays etc but can no longer source one. Must be safe to lead in and tie up. Every normal brand of headcollar I have had gone rusty and white in days after being left in a dustbin down by the field (yard rule), no matter of cleaning will scrub them up! Loathed to use a rope halter on her but any other suggestions welcome!

I was going to say the Fieldsafe headcollars too - but it would depend how docile your horse is to lead and tie up, as of course they do break quite easily so you would be forever replacing the bits that break under pressure.

Why don't you like rope halters? They come in lovely bright colours, and are so easy to pop on and off, and wash up like a dream.

I'm happy for people to suggest rope halters but i find the thin ones too harsh for her and the thick white ones we sometimes use at work aren't long enough to tie up with and I wouldn't tie up as it tightens round the muzzle if they pull back or lean.

Look for a Western Style head collar and lead rope in one. Made of rope, the one I used to use for a loan horse was wonderful and did not pull on the face if they pulled back any more than a normal head collar wood.

I have used a normal headcollar before and got my other half to cut out the metal links and I have replaced them with string so that it will break if gets caught in field. you may be able to adapt a normal one this way - you could cut out the metal loops (or handy man could) then use zip ties to keep it together but obviously these wont break so wont be "field safe"

Wont look pretty but may do the job without spending a fortune
