So after recommendations for headphones for when riding!

Schooling I should add not on the road!

Have tried the apple ones, jelly ones, and ones that hook over ears but all fall out or aren't comfy.

Any recommendations?

I have a set of stenhienner buds and they are fab, my ears always hurt from wearing headphones but not these as they are small and comfy and have a rubber bit on them making them snug and comfy. Glad you said only for schooling, my heart dropped when I first read your post, pet hate of mine seeing people hacking out with headphones on or on the PHONE!!!! Aggghhh

I was considering some of the Helmetears ones but whacking the volume on my phone up to full and shoving it in my jods or coat pocket seems to work just fine. Means Monty gets the benefit of listening to my favourite podcasts as well :D

I used to just wear a cheapy pair and wrap the bud around my bra strap once so if it did fall out of my ear it wouldn't drop far and put my hat on over the top so the strap helped keep it in. I tended to only wear one ear in though so I could still hear if someone shouted me or for example when I went hacking through the woods (no road work needed) I could hear walkers or dogs behind me - volume was always on low for just that reason :)

I use cheap ones but with the in-ear bud (the marshmallow material one) this is the only one I find doesn't fall out. Plastic and rubber buds always fall out of my ears. Marshmallow bud can withstand galloping, jumping and bouncy trot :)
I had expensive ones once and they died just the same as the cheap ones do :(
I have the strap under my t-shirt so if they do fall out, they just dangle by my collar.
(and yes I am one of those mad people who wears them hacking when I fancy it, although I take out on the roads)

Quite happy with my skull candy ones.
Just remember - shake to shuffle is not your friend!

wow no! I bet its like a mega remix of everything on your ipod! Haha, I never ever thought of that.....could explain why mine is so god damn annoying when I jog some days?! *must check settings!

This thread makes me feel like a right old f@rt. I would never dream of riding with headphones on.

Riding is my escape into the fresh air, and company of my horse. I do not want to be distracted by music, podcasts or some such.

Is it common for you young things to ride whilst plugged in to your portable devices, then?

I get a bit lonely when I'm by myself!

I blame it on having always ridden at a riding school before having a break from horses and then starting back again with a share. I don't know what to do with myself when it's quiet!

I'm with you Tiddlypom. However I do like both my own company and that of my horse, if he wasn't such a spook-monster I'd always be hacking out on my own, with no other distractions. I put music on a couple of times in the school when I was practising some dressage to music, but I much preferred it when it was silent.

I'm not young, but have ridden with my ipod as long as they have been available. There is never ever not music anywhere I am, I hate silence. Music is my passion along with horses. Its not a distraction to me, it improves my concentration too.

Oh how nice to be called a young thing!

My mare irritates the hell out of whilst schooling and rather than have an argument all the time riding to music stops picking on her for the little things and refine the bigger things without having ginger ninja histerics!

Anyway the point of this post was to find new headphones rather than if riding to music was the done thing.

Thanks all, haven't found any ear buds I get on with so will look into the ear warmer types!

I used to do it if I was trying to relax into something like no stirrups in the school or if I was hacking alone, I still would talk to my boy on the way round though ha ha! :)

Tiddlypom - I have a schooling playlist the way I have a gym playlist. The music is chosen for the rhythm, and I find it helps me focus on the rhythm of the paces instead of getting too focused on whatever I'm asking (I can get too intense when schooling). It really helps to have the music, in the same way I study better with classical music in the background.

I don't hack with music as I'm just chilling.

This exactly :)

I just shove my ipod down my bra and turn the volume up, it allows for background noise, I don't feel antisocial and my horse can hear it too :) (I do look a bit weird holding my hand to my chest to mute it if someone wants to talk, I feel suddenly patriotic!)

Sorry to have offended you, I didn't realise that all threads were required to reply strictly to the OP ;). I was genuinely taken aback that people ride with headphones on, but hey ho.

Thanks to everyone who has responded to my off piste comments :).
