Hi, long term lurker posting first time, could do with some advice.

Has anyone had results with a uv mask on a head shaker?

Yes,I used one on my mare, she wore a hood at all times when she was out of the stable. When she first started head shaking she was unrideable as she would strike out at her face and try to rub her nose on my stirrups. It did take a long time to see an improvement, but after several months she was being ridden with the hood on and eventually I could ride without it and she just wore it in the field.

I've never had success with barrier methods (uv mask, or nosenet, or ear hood) without adding a nutritional dimension - they have helped and been 'part of the mix' at different times, esp. in high rape-flowering season, but the biggest effect for seasonal environmental triggers have been several nutritional changes, including respiratory/airway syrups, spirulina and added salt. Massive improvement. I use grazing muzzles routinely in the field and actually those also really help with blocking environmental pollens/spores.

Thank you palterwell, I think maybe I should buy one.

Thanks hen, this horse is worse in sunlight, I don't think it's to do with pollen. I put a curb chain on his noseband to send signals up the nerves so that they stopped irritating him and that seemed to do some good. So I think he's a nerve case, not an allergy case.
