headshaking

have been looking up products for headshaking,have been using globa herbs pollen x but doesnt seem to be helping,does any one have experince with cortalfex shaker guard or naf?
also vet can prescribe anti-histimens what do u think?

Sorry missmorsey - don't know if you are a newcomer to this distressing problem or know everything there is to know about it so excuse me if its the latter, but just trying to help. If you Google "headshaking horses" and pick good quality sources to read, you'll find a ton of helpful information and analyses of current thinking/remedies. Headshaking is a "spectrum" disorder, ie at the lowest end you might have a horse that just needs to rub his nose on a foreleg when he gets hot and sweaty. At the other end, there are horses that are downright dangerous to ride due to violent and unpredictable head movements, tics and lashing out with a foreleg. I think I read that low level problems can often escalate, but not always. Nosenets are receiving some good results (though no-one is totally sure why) and I think you can compete in one if you have a vets certificate and appropriate permission. The theories about what causes headshaking abound. I think you'll find the prognosis is at best guarded for a confirmed head shaker.

that was a great one wasn't it

we are about to try nose nets, our two go from one extreme to the other

we have one who rubs his nose a lot on his leg & one who windmills when in the field or ridden and also snorts a lot.

I use a nose net on my boy in the spring /summer to stop him head shaking. He just doesn’t like it when the midges get up his nose. The nose net really helps. Just need to find a human version now as I find myself headshaking too!

TB all year round and that keeps him happy

Old Welsh x just in the summer, as he hates the flies going up his nose and jumps on his forehand and also the Blackthorne leaves, which makes him go along snorthing like a stallion

The TB starts shaking his head being led with a headcollar, so I tend to think that he doesn't like the pressure of the nose band, but oddly enough the nosenet compensates for this

It depends why your horse is headshaking, mine has a allergy tp pollen I did try anti-histamines however the vet prescrided about 20 tablets in feed 3 times a day if thats not bad enough it was about £70 for about 5 days worth!
