I did do a quick search, but don't think we've had a headtorch thread this year.... and as these things are always improving, I wondered what is exciting and new in the world of headtorches?

This year I've been using a cheapie from B&Q which was about £7, and I do my poo-picking and haylage-feeding at night (horses out 24/7 and no light at the yard)

I do find it's ok for close up stuff, but looses intestity quite quickly the further you look, so poo-picking is tricky as I end up walking twice as far to see the poos :o

So, any others that I should consider putting on my christmas list? :D

I use a three led energizer about £10 from halfords or tesco good light and good distance purchased a second on this year for a spare

The one I use is actually a bike light, I bought it to put on if I was a bit late getting back from a hack. It wasn't that expensive, you can spend a fortune on them, but it certainly does the job very well.

Best to spend the money and get a good one. The best people to ask as those that mountain bike at night...equivalent speeds as riding and just as demanding for what you need to be able to see and do. I've a Lenser with over 150 lumens, it lights up a 2 acre field where i school. Couldn't live without it:D
Anything less than 100 lumens is rubbish, lots of research needed;)

I've got the Alpkit one and like it. I like the multitude of lighting options although I haven't used the green light yet. Find the red light is less of a distraction for Bertha.

Just bought one of these:

Although only a white light the power and range of beam is quite incredible. The only downside is that it took 30 days to arrive. But thinking about it, torch and postage from half way around the world for less than a fiver, I cannot complain.

Personally I wouldn't bother with expensive torches or headlights. I'd only loose them or get them nicked at work.

If you're looking for a good range of torches/batteries/headlights try 7dayshop.com, always had good service from them.
