Anyone any ideas on how to get a cut on the front of a knee to heal up? Every time the knee moves the cut opens up again. Short of tying my mare up and hobbling her I have run out of ideas. Have tried all the usual methods.
I can recommend the honey and cod liver oil gauzes we use for wounds like this, the honey keeps the area moist and the oil lubricates it, so healing is excellent in difficult places like knees. They are called MM tulles and your local pharmacist can order them via his wholesaler. They cost around £14 for 32 in a flat tin.
Clean the wound, apply one, cover with a sticky bandage and leave alone for at least three days for a wound like this.
If you pm me on sue@narramorefarm.com I will email you some pics back of a knee injury that is now virtually gone.
Have you heard of manuka honey? You'll know it on the shelf at your local supermarket because it is the one that is about 1000% more expensive than any of the others
Friend of mine tried it on a cut on her lad's fetlock that refused to heal and it worked a treat.
Honey is anti-septic, and flexible.
Good luck!
