How long does it take for the gum and root hole to heal after a canine tooth has been pulled out?

Unfortunately the tooth extraction was not done by the vet or an EDT... My horse managed to get his tooth caught on a leadrope clip and pulled it out himself (including the root - he is 15).

The vet has been out and given him antibiotics and bute (on Monday) and when he looked today he said he thought it would have shown some healing signs. He has now given me some oral paste to "fill" the hole with. Horse is eating well and is happy in himself.

prob not helpful but in a human it would be anything between a week and a couple of months depending on the type and severity of the extraction. Healing is generally quick in the mouth area though due to the rich blood supply, so would expect him to be out of any discomfort in no more than a week, even if the socket takes a bit longer to fully close he should be fine in himself and have no outward symptoms.

A friends horse has had one of his premolars taken out a few weeks ago and we have been advised that it can take around 8 weeks or so to heal up. So I would expect it to be the same with some of the other teeth but I may be wrong. Might give you something to go on.
