Out hunting today some idiot's horse reared up and then backed up into Ali, everyone was crowded together so the only place Ali was able to go was straight back into barbed wire

He now has a very deep cut on has backside, fortunately it wasn't on a joint or anywhere like that, but it's still quite nasty

The meet wasn't far from my house, so I brought him home straight away instead of going to the yard. The vet is going to be here in half an hour, I cleaned the area as best as I could but he'll need to be sedated to clean it much better and to stitch it up

He really doesn't deserve this, he was surprisingly well behaved today and jumped everything so well. He's munching away at his hay now, poor, poor lad

Healing vibes would really be appreciated folks

Healing vibes being sent Ali's way. The trouble with cuts and later scars on horses' backsides is that they sometimes rub them when travelling.

Poor ali ...(((healing vibes ))) heading your way .

Missy is healing not too bad too, she has just finished her course of steriods and is now on antibiotic powders

Hope you are ok xx

Thanks everyone, it's really appreciated

Vet came at around 6, he sedated Ali firstly and cleaned the area, even under sedation Ali tried to lash out at him. He then gave him an anaesthetic and stitched him up, Ali was resting his head on my shoulder a lot of the time, but flinched quite a bit... Fortunately it isn't too bad and should heal up nicely, the stitches will be removed in about 7 - 10 days.

As you can see from the photos it isn't that bad, although the cut was quite deep... the photos were taken in poor light but you can just about see the stitches... It happened just when we were finishing up, very unfortunate

I came back from the yard about 15 minutes ago, he was munching away at his hay and let me hose away the blood from his tail without too much moving about, poor dote

Oh no, did the hunting go well, any HUGE hedges or pictures.

Get well soon ALi.

It went really well, it wasn't hedge country today, but we did jump a good bit of wire, stone walls, ditches and 6 bar gates! Will post a report later, I have photos of Ali and I before we set off but no other photos of us as Dad didn't follow us.

Thank you

Happy Birthday btw!

Well the stitches have to come out in about 7 - 10 days, the vet said I could ride/lunge him gently (no mad gallops around the fields!), he isn't lame or anything. I won't be hunting him next weekend but as the meet is about a mile from my yard I'll be bringing Castle, my chauffeur is away so I'll hack down

PF - He didn't... but I'm not sure he realised that Ali had backed into the wire at all... As when he backed into Ali we were heading off again and he didn't have time to look back... I know who he was, but I wasn't going to give out to him on the hunting field... A few people saw exactly what happened, and I do hope they mentioned it to him in the pub and that he apologises to me next week...
Haniki - I couldn't care less if I wasn't able to hunt Ali for the next two weeks tbh, all that matters to me is that he heals up well and that it wasn't worse

When I was hosing down the rest of the blood from his legs and tail there was a huge puddle of blood, not nice at all
