Healing vibes needed please! My lightening fast Pointer cut her paw and leg badly in the woods this morning and she's currently at the vets being sewn up :(

Hope she heals quickly. She's going to be really difficult to manage if she has to stay in or on the lead for a few weeks. She's as fit as a working Pointer and she's use to 2 to 3 hours of running a day, which isn't going to happen for a while now. Any tips on how to cope with her in the house if she's trying to climb the walls?

We were planning on going to the Point to Point this weekend with her too, but we won't be able to go if we can't take her as it's quite a long way and we'd be out for too long.

I'm waiting for the vet call me....

Sending loads of healing vibes to her. While she is restricted to the house try teaching her some new "tricks". Possibly clicker training, or teaching her to find hidden toys round the room, with a working pointer I can imagine it will be difficult but anything to get her thinking will help, if her brain is occupied its a good start. Hopefully she will recover quickly and once the stitches are out you will be able to increase her exercise quite soon.

Thank you. Teaching her to do new tricks is an excellent idea.

The vet's just called, she's fine and is just coming round from the sedation for the stiches, and her leg is all bandaged up and she's ready for me to collect!

I feel your pain....my wire haired pointer has not been able to go for a walk for about 2 months now:eek: he went from running 2-3 hours a day like yours and then he was diagnosed with a condition that prevented him from walking without collapsing:(
Luckily he is a very laid back lad, and very well behaved indoors, so he is coping fine, but as sugested the mental games you can create for her will help, atleast she will beable to go for walks on lead with a bootie on:D

{{{{Fingers crossed}}}} she heals quickly, until then, do you feed dry food?
If so, throw it out all over the floor, maybe not much for a working girl like yours, but she will have to take both one and two looks around the room, to make sure that she has really found all the bits and pieces around the room.

If you have a Kong or similar, fill it with something, carrot purée or yoghurt perhaps mixed with a little liver pate etc, put it in the freezer and give it to her frozen. If you have empty toilet rolls, put a treat inside one, pinch the ends together as much as appropriate according to her level to be food driven and willing to rip things apart to be able to get to the goodies.
If/when she gets the hang of it, you can increase the difficulty by pinching the ends completely together, later you can also hide it under a pillow first etc... You can do the same with the Kong, first let her work to find it and then she has to work to get the frozen good stuff out of the Kong.

If you want some brain-exercising toys (boredom breakers) that you can hide treats or dry food inside, I have some of Nina Ottosson's, my dogs favourite is Dog Tornado Wood. They are sold in the UK, e.g. swellpets, petplanet and mutleyandmog.
As I recall, Prose's Stella enjoys this boredom breaker Boston-terrier-challenge .

Again, I hope she heals quickly.

Good suggestions above. Thanks.

Here's the little wounded soldier:
