Last week we agreed to take on a couple of feral kittens after they were spayed/neutered. Our friends brought them up while I was at work and told my totally naive husband that the 4 foot of chicken wire I’ve got up around my partially constructed chicken run would be enough to keep them in. ?Amazingly only one of the two did a runner. I’ve been leaving feed out for it and could see on cctv that it was taking it.
This evening I went to check on the horses and the dogs started going mad. They had the kitten cornered and I was able to keep them away and then throw a towel over her. I gathered it up to put in the stable with her brother and when I set her down she just lay on her side ? I thought she was paralysed, and put her in a crate and down to the vet to be PTS.
The vet checked her out and said she had abdominal crepitus, but was moving limbs. X-Ray didn’t show anything major and they advised warmth and fluids rather than just putting to sleep straight away. They are a country vet and were aware she was feral, so husband felt he should go with what they said.
It’s now 3 hours later and they’ve called to say she’d brightened up a bit and has her eyes opened now.
I just hope we’ve done the right thing for her- I don’t want to extend her pain and fear, so please send good vibes for her to make a full recovery. ?
