Healing vibes please for Sarah-Jane Brown

Thanks all. It was just one of those freak accidents that could of happeneed off anything. My new girl has been a total angel and s a vefyvserious prospect but is still a baby. It was windy, there were thigs behindthe edge and a sudden rush of traffic and she did what Sarnie or Pip would have done and whipped round, I should of stayed on and was unseated too easily but landed wrong on the road. I attach no blame to horse freak accident which i should have stayed on but how often can we all say that!

So currently in hospital although aiming to break out tomorrow! Admitted last night and operated on at Midnght by a very expperienced surgeon. He works for the military in war zones and is a realist. His initial prognosis was a year out the saddle and the possibility of not being able to get back to my current level. The op went as well as it could. I have basically broken the ball that goes in the socket off the end of the bone, there is the potential that the loss of blood supply will cause it to die anytime in next 2 years :(

When I spoke to him today he was pleased with how it went and was going to consult a hip expert on timescales for riding. We have agreed I will do everything he tells me provided he tries to help me get back riding asap. For the moment it is 6 weeks on crutches with no weight bearing and then a further 6 weeks starting to bear weight. Will probably get my best indication of prognosis at 6 weeks.

Thank you for all the vibes they are much needed as I expet you can imagine I am quite down.

Fingers crossed that you make a full and speedy recovery. When karma kicks in, you'll be laughing, but until then I hope you get lots of well-deserved rest and attention! Your surgeon sounds lovely and very honest and understanding too :)

Ouch SJ! What a horrible way to end the year :( I hope 2012 is a better one for you. Have you got enough help with the horses?

Here's hoping for a good outcome.
My son had a similar break 18 months ago, though the fall was from a wheelie bin not a horse. (Student, 3am!). When I first spoke to the hospital I was told they were concerned there may be a serious underlying condition due to the severity of the break at his age - basically the ball bit had broken into 5 pieces - thankfully it was just bad luck. He doesn't ride, but he was up & walking about without crutches in a few weeks. He has just had all the metal work removed as the bone has healed well but he had pain lying om the nails - no flesh on him at all to pad them out.

Poor you thats rubbish news. I hope they let you home today. Staying in hospitals is horrible. Hopefully they are giving you worst case healing info and im sure the fact that you are fit and active will (hopefully) help you get better sooner. Fingers crossed for home time today as staying in hospitals sucks, esp

Loads of fast healing vibes heading right on over to you! What rubbish luck for you, hope all goes to plan. It's hard but try stay positive, your surgeon sounds very experienced and will get you back on board ASAP I'm sure! Take care of yourself :-( x

Och why do things like this always happen to the hard working good uns?

Wishing you all the best SJ and hopes of an excellent recovery. Do what the Doctor's tell you!!:)

What awful luck SJ, as you say how many times have we all sat a spin and thought nothing of it, we don't realise how lucky we are until something happens! Gutted for you as well just when the new one has arrived. If it's any consolation at least it's happened right at the end of the season. I'm sure you'll be very hot on it after your ankle, but get to see a physio as fast as you can, makes so much difference to your longterm recovery. Very best of luck, both with healing and not climbing the walls!

Oh what terrible luck S, not good to be laid up at any time of the year. :( :(

More vibes for a speedy recovery, dont be too down, sounds like you're in good hands, hope you're home soon.

S_J, I am gutted for you to read this news. As per everyone else I am sending lots of fast healing vibes & hope you escape from hospital sooner rather than later. It will be a frustrating time for you & will no doubt feel like a very long haul :( but hopefully it will all be worth it in the not too distant future & you will be back feeling as good as ever. :)

Sorry to hear this S_J, you have had some rotten luck this year.

Stay positive - you have lots to look forward to when you can get back in the saddle with Sarnie and the hugely promising Pippa.

Your poor mum will soon be petrified to let you out of her sight!

Hope you will be back on the mend soon.

Oh no, that's such bad luck. although as others have said at least it's the end of the season not the beginning.
How on earth did you get help and get the horse sorted out?
Very glad to hear that the surgeon is sounding more positive now he's done the operation and mega vibes that you heal perfectly without any more trouble.

Sending lots and lots of healing vibes. Hope you have enough support around you to sort out horses so all you need to worry about is getting better.

Lots of healing vibes coming over your way. Sounds as if it was "just one of those things" but that doesn't make it any easier to bear. Lousy year, you've had. Hope things pick up very soon, and you prove them doctors wrong and are out and about a.s.a.p. :p:D
