Hector is on box rest

We think (hope) he has a foot abcess. Vet came today to give B her EHV vac and had a look at him too (farrier is away, I usually prefer farriers for abcess tbth). He has a hot foot and strong digital pulse and is pointing - all classic foot pain. She dug around, hoof testers etc.... and the only thing she found was BLOOD - LOTS of it too!!! Can't say I was too impressed - NEVER had a horse bleed SO much from an exploration like this before! She hopes that as it was "so close to the surface of the sole" that she has discovered bruising....... He is in, on box rest and poulticed, feeling very sorry for himself

Thanks guys - I'm actually feeling really down about it. I just have a bad feeling....... I mean I had to wash the yard once he was all poulticed up, due to the amount of blood........ He was so well behaved as well - I mean he is a good boy, but he hardly fidgeted or chewed on the rope........ the only thing remotely naughty that he did was to snatch his foot away violently, just as she unearthed the blood

Feet are really, really bloody; PF had an abscess once and when vet had a dig around she bled like mad! She's still here though

Thanks PF! I've just never seen a foot bleed like this before. It seems to be abcess weather atm - we've had loads at work just recently!

awww poor Hector, at least she managed to find something. Nothing worse than having a good dig round, just to create a big hole and not actually get anything out!
